I went out for a run yesterday. Before leaving the house I started the badasports app and started a new activity. The app then tried to search for a GPS signal for 2/3 minutes. Whilst waiting I flicked through the 3/4 different views available. There's a dashboard screen with a summary of your activity, a screen showing speed vs distance on a graph, a screen showing height difference over time (probably more useful when mountain biking or skiiing) and a map of your location markign yoru route.
The app froze up the phone when I went to look at the map. So I had to restart bada.
After the reboot, I tried the endomondo app, which also spent 2/3 minutes trying to find my location.
Went back to badasports which crashed whilst trying to find the GPS signal, also shutting down the music player running in the background. The bada OS didn't crash this time, so I could just start badaspots again.
By this time I had been faffing about with my phone for 10-15 minutes and I'd not yet left the house so I decided to just click "start activity", head out on my run and hope for the best.
The problem may have been that I was indoors because to my surprise my entire run was recorded.
I had assumed it wouldn't work at all or it might only pick up a signal half way through or for only some parts of the run.
I was quite pleased with the result.
At the end of your activity you get a summary of the distance covered, you can view the graphs of speed and altitude over distance and you can see your route on the map. (edit:
like this actually)
The history in badasports also lists the number of activities you did. With a goal of 1000 set into the app.
So I now have 1 activity and 999 left before reaching 1000.
It also lists the distance you covered with as goal going around the earth. 40069km left to go for me.
You get the altitude you climbed, with as goal the height of Mt Everest.
Finally, you also see how many calories you burned.
In my case 417 Kcal which is listed in "average pizza slices"
When you start an activity you also have the option to click "live update" which gives you the option of logging in on your twitter or facebook.
If you select this, a post is made from bada declaring to the world/your friends that you are now doing a sports activity with badasports and invites them to follow you live.
If they click a link, it takes them to a bada page with a nice overview of your route on the map + the beforementioned graphs of speed and altitude over distance. (again,
this one)
I'm assuming they can watch you do your thing live from that page. I visited it when I got home so of course it was only the summary of the completed activity.
One little quirk on my first run:
The time was off by 1 hour when I started running. It was 7:20pm and badasports thought it was 6:20.
It somehow must've corrected itself at some point so my 35 minute run was registered as a 1h35t minute run, throwing off my average speed and such. Hopefully this will be fine next time.
One negative point. The app seems to crash the badaOS very frequently.
Whilst writing this post, I started up badasports to consult the screens and it froze up my phone 2 times.
Hopefully this isn't going to be a typical behaviour. It would be rather annoying if you go out for a run and upon your return discover it crashed and didn't record anything.
